Steps to Apply

Please submit the following to complete your application:

  • Online application for graduate study
  • A statement of aims and objectives (minimum one page)
  • Official transcripts from every college or university attended submitted directly from the institution. A bachelor's degree is required for full admission to a graduate program. You may be admitted conditionally pending receipt of your degree.
  • Two professional letters of recommendation
  • Current resume
  • Personal interview by invitation of faculty
  • Rolling Admission: Recommended deadlines are August 1 (fall) and April 1 (summer)

Please submit the following to complete your application:

  • Online application for graduate study
  • Official transcripts from each college or university attended
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an NLN-CCNE-accredited school
  • Two professional letters of recommendation (Preference for 1 academic and 1 professional/work history)
  • Resume and essay. Essay topic:
    • Describe an ethical dilemma you were confronted with during your nursing career. Discuss the strategies you used to resolve the dilemma. (1,000 words or less)
  • Active unencumbered RN license in good standing
  • Completion of BSN prerequisite courses:
    • Health Assessment or equivalent course/integrated curriculum competencies
    • Nursing or Health-Discipline Research
    • Statistics
  • Students must meet the "Technical Standards” that are defined in the application for admission
  • Meet one of the two requirements
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a scale of 4.0) in the most recent nursing degree with a minimum, cumulative GPA in all nursing courses of a 3.0.
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 in at least two graduate nursing courses IF the most recent nursing degree GPA is less than or equal to 2.99. (Students can be admitted as conditionally admitted, and allowed to take 2 graduate nursing courses at Rider. Students should take APRN 5001 Socialization to the APRN Role and one of the following: APRN 5002, 5003, 5004, 5006)
  • Rolling Admission

Admission to the PMC program is open to RNs or APRNs with a master’s degree in nursing. Prospective applicants must meet the following criteria, though meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee admission:

  1. Possess a master’s degree in nursing from an NLN-CCNE-accredited school
  2. All current nursing licensure/s in good standing and unencumbered. 
  3. Students must meet the "Technical Standards" that are defined in the application for admission 

Applicants to the PMC program from an MSN nurse practitioner program must present a valid nurse practitioner certification and APRN licensure in their practice specialty at the time of application.  A gap analysis of previous clinical courses including syllabi and confirmation of clinical hours will be evaluated to ensure all students complete the required number of clinical hours in the population foci at the time the degree is awarded.  Verification of current NP practice will be required. 

Applicants to the PMC program from a non-nurse practitioner MSN will submit syllabi from previous graduate nursing courses.  A gap analysis of previous coursework will be evaluated to ensure all students complete the appropriate APRN coursework in Professional Role, Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Physical Assessment, Advanced Pharmacology, and the direct care, population foci courses including clinical hours.

  • All graduate nursing transcripts 
  • APRN certification (if applicable)
  • RN licensure 
  • APRN licensure (if applicable)
  • Resume/CV 

Optional documents at the time of application:  Graduate nursing course descriptions and syllabi for gap analysis (will be reviewed at the time of application if submitted), verification of current practice as a nurse practitioner (if applicable)- this can be a letter verifying employment and position or a copy of current collaborative or supervising agreement.

Although Rider's graduate nursing programs offer fall, spring and summer entry, starting in the fall ensures you may take the maximum number of courses and complete your program in the least amount of time.

International Applicants and Non-native English Speakers

In addition to the above requirements, international transcripts may need to be evaluated by a NACES member organization.

Non-native English speakers and those who have completed their undergraduate degrees in a non-English speaking countries are required to submit Proof of English proficiency in the form of one of the following:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 
    • Rider University’s TOEFL Code: 2758
    • Minimum Score: PBT 540, iBT 79
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • Minimum Score: 6.5
    • PTE (Pearson Test of English academic)
    • Minimum Score: 53
  • International Test of English Proficiency (ITEP)
    • Minimum Score: 3.9
  • Trinity Integrated Skills in English II (ISE II)
    • Minimum Score: Pass
  • Duolingo
    • Minimum Score: 100

Students with scores below the university's minimum requirements will be considered for conditional admission through Rider's English Language Institute.
